What’s that you say? It’s May already?!
For someone who now finds himself working alone at home most of the time I certainly seem to have a fair bit going on these days & I'm not complaining. The week has been both productive & fun at the same time, with a good mixture of work life balance going on.
I’m certainly grateful & as mentioned by Rob during our weekly meeting earlier in the week, I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.
The pages for JINGLE SQUAD chapter 2 are steadily making their way up the process ladder with my new approach (I believe I talked about this last week), as I mentioned to the guys (team Jingle or should that be the Bells?) it’s certainly keeping my mind focused more as I’m going back over the pages at an earlier point in the process. For example I’m currently working on the first 12 pages, during those pages you find yourself keen to ink the things you’ve just drawn, you’re eager to see the results, to see if they’re arriving on paper (or the screen) the way you’re envisioning them? Usually I’d be holding back that joy until all pencils are completed & the journey goes all the way back to the starting line. Now it’s an interesting juggling act of inking a couple of pages one minute then back to the script for some quick thumbnails the next, followed by a few pages of pencils then back to the inking. It’s still too early to decide if it’s bringing anything new or better to the table other than it doesn’t feel quite so overwhelming this way.
Took some work with me while waiting for a new tire to be fitted on my Lambretta.
Tuesday was a good example of this in a way as I had to take my Lambretta to Bodmin scooter centre to have a new front tire fitted, the whole trip there & back as well as waiting for the work to be completed can take a good few hours out of your day so to be able to load a few pencilled pages onto the iPad & crack on with a bit of work is a wonderful thing in my world.
Unfortunately this week I didn’t get the time to work on the short video for the next Kickstarter campaign which is pretty much all that’s holding back announcing a launch date. I must rectify that this coming week as issue 2 of SPACEBOY & THE FUTURE KING is ready to go.
On a plus side I had a fantastic morning at the opening of Truro’s brand new comic book store ARCHERS COMICS. I got there 30 minutes early & Jake, the shops owner, very kindly let me in before the queue started to form. It was great be his first in store customer & to witness everyone coming in for the first time, even caught up with a couple of friends (Dan & Mex) who are now also on their own comic creating journeys! A nice touch by Mex was that he handed out a few of his creations for free to the folks who were there which was an awesome idea, well it was Free Comic Book day!
The rest of that day was devoted to LEEDS UNITED as they grabbed the title in impressive fashion! HUGE THANKS goes to my good lady wife who played an absolute blinder! 💛🤍💙
As a rule I don’t mix my Substack up with non comic related content if I can help it & I'm not 100% sure I won’t lose a few followers now the cat is out of the bag regarding my choice of team but it is a big part of my life for the past 50 odd years & I certainly couldn’t let the moment pass without comment? A fun & slightly rowdy afternoon was had by a bunch of us, all strangers to each each other but ALL LEEDS AREN’T WE?
Well, I’d say that’s about it,
I’m off to watch THUNDERBOLTS*.
Rory.
