Morning ya legends.
Hope you’ve all had a great week regardless of any potential bumps in the road.
Personally I’ve had another productive one myself with the colouring of JINGLE SQUAD nearing completion, currently sat with around 12 to 14 pages left, I’m going to finish around midweek. On top of that I’m getting the files tidied up & ready for print for SPACEBOY & THE FUTURE KING 2: AWAKENING OF THE SPITTYPIG!
As I type this it’s sat at 90% with 5 days to go, so with any luck I won’t have too much trouble getting over the line.
“ I’m trying everything to get it over the line!”
After having had a cracking weekend last week watching Paul Heaton at Westonbirt Arboretum then a quick nose around the city of Bath the following day on our way home it was time to knuckle down again & I honestly couldn’t wait. It’s a strange but wonderful feeling at the moment, the realisation that I’m currently earning a modest living doing a thing I love COMICS, while I remember the draining feelings I used to get having to work in the kitchens through these hot summer days. I’m not knocking that work by the way, it’s some good solid graft & I did have some fantastic times now & again, but when you know you should be doing something else, something that’ll light you up, something that you’ve wanted to do for as long as you can remember it certainly puts a smile on your face.
Make hay while the sun shines.
By the time the Wednesday meeting rolled around it seemed everything else wanted to get involved at the very same time, so much so that I couldn’t actually make the meeting due to a few things occurring, my weekly food shop being delivered slap bang in conjunction with the installation of my fibre broadband which finally (ordered it on February 18th) came to into being & what a difference it’s made?! I’m very much looking forward to catching up with the guys next Wednesday & hopefully hearing they’re pleased with the colours so far.🤞🏻
Looking ahead I’m now looking at getting the colours down on issue 3 of SPACEBOY & THE FUTURE KING 3: SMELLS LIKE JAM! as well as drawing in the cameos that folks have payed for via the rewards tier in issue 1.
With a good wind behind me I should be looking at launching the final part of the story around August.
My mind is also constantly being pulled back to INCOMERS OF THE BLOATED GOAT which is going through a rewrite although I’m sure I will be salvaging a lot of what I’ve already drawn so it’s not a complete overhaul. I was waiting to come home at Oxford train station a couple of weeks back when a fella started singing alongside a pianist (very Oxford) apart from having a great voice I couldn’t help noticing his overall look which became very interesting to me, interesting enough to grab a sketch..
..a little way into this when I realised Claudia Winkleman wasn’t about to show up, an identical looking fella rocked up & stood at the other side of the piano, in similar attire but different colours. They immediately got me thinking about how I could use a couple of interesting looking characters to play a part in my comic? Henchmen? Heavy’s? Goons? Or maybe just some operatic buskers?
Well I think that’s about it? Up early tomorrow to give the Lambretta a quick run in the early sun before another day in the studio doing the thing I love, making COMICS!
Long may it continue.
see ya.
Rory.
Love Paul Heaton! Disappointed I couldn't go (was on holiday, so that's swings and roundabouts isn't it?) And supported by Billy Bragg! Would've been amazing!!!
