Le Grande Purge.
Studio clearance or no?
Scorched earth mutha f**ka!
Let’s get the weather talk done nice & early, I don’t mind admitting I’m not the biggest fan of the heat, I’m even less of a fan of moving house, so why not do both? How bad can it be?
Well, after carrying a few ton of books/ comics/collectibles & drawing supplies up two flights of stairs, not to mention the entire 17years of combined contents from our old home on the hottest days of June (since records began, I really like that phrase, it’s used nearly as much as unprecedented) I’m happy to announce my watch thinks I’m training for a triathlon.
Anyway, we’re now in our new home & it’s amazing!
While trying to set up my studio ( I had to take apart & rebuild a lot of my studio furniture ) it’s occurred to me that it probably wouldn’t hurt to thin out the collection a touch. Now, as we know, if you’re into comics collecting, it can be quite a task to work out what stays & what goes?
Maybe an uncluttered workspace is a good thing?
I’ve got a good collection of independent comics from folks I now regard as friends which made me wonder, do you keep all the indie stuff you have gathered over the years? Will you read them again? Or should you pass them on to someone else so they can discover your fellow creators?
Blessed to have some wall space to use, be nice to get a few up.
Its also occurred to me that I have wall space to put up previously unhung pictures & prints from the various cons over the years.
For the moment though all that will have to stop as I’m behind on JINGLE SQUAD, which in turn means I’m behind on SPACEBOY & THE FUTURE KING 3.
With the studio being set up at ‘just enough to work in level’ I’ve started back at colours on chapter 5 of JINGLE SQUAD, it’ll be nice to get the rhythm going again as I’m not accustomed to stopping mid job. Currently on page 7 of 34 & hoping to be colouring 3 pages a day, depending on what the page requires? Once that is completed I’ll be onto the final chapter of this particular book.
Once I’m fully settled & back into the groove I have no doubt I’ll be able to get these projects done & hopefully find some more paid opportunities, whether that’s for pencils for hire or for my own creations?
It’s sometimes easy to forget that being self employed means you’re responsible for finding your own way!
The studio will have to become a WIP for the next few weeks/ months as I focus fully on my work commitments. I’ve been a little surprised at how I fitted all the stuff into my old studio?
Still, it’ll have to wait for a bit, evenings & weekends will be a better time to start emptying all the boxes of such wondrous goodies.
That’ll do for this particular update, it’s getting late & I’m keen to get a good start tomorrow.
Thank you if you’re managing to read through this occasional drivel of mine, it certainly helps to just get something down & out of my system? But honestly,
Thank you for taking time out to read it.
Until the next time.
Rory.
